The U. S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote excellence in high school chemistry. Each year, four top students are selected to represent the United States team at the International Chemistry Olympiad competition. The Chemistry Olympiad consists of the following four stages:
Local Section Exam
International Chemistry Olympiad
The Midland Section of the American Chemical Society coordinates every year the Local Section Exam and National Exam competitions. In 2021, 73 students representing five high schools located in three counties within the Midland Section geographic area boundaries participated in March in the Local Exam. Nine Local competition winners from Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties took part in the National Exam on April 17th which in 2021 was held virtually via Zoom due to COVID. All the students who took part in the Chemistry Olympiad were recognized and the National Exam participants also received gifts.
