Chemistry Olympiad
The U. S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote excellence in high school chemistry. Each year, four top students are selected to represent the United States team at the International Chemistry Olympiad competition. The Chemistry Olympiad consists of the following four stages:

National Exam
Study Camp
International Chemistry Olympiad
The Midland Section of the American Chemical Society coordinates a Local Section Exam and National Exam competitions of the USNCO. In March 2024, 75 students from seven high schools located in four counties in mid-Michigan participated in the Local Exam. Four high scoring students from Bay, Isabella, Midland, and Saginaw counties took part in the National Exam on April 13th at Saginaw Valley State University. The students who participated in the Chemistry Olympiad were recognized with ACS certificates. The National Exam participants also received gifts. One student achieved a sufficiently high score at the National Exam to receive Honors.
