ACS offers four categories of membership plus a Student Affiliate category:

Regular/Associate Member – Entitled to member-only subscription rates for ACS journals and a subscription (print and online) to Chemical & Engineering News, individuals must have one of the following: a degree in a chemical science, a certification as a teacher of a chemical science, or relevant work experience. Note: Associate Members (those who have not yet met requirements for full Society membership) cannot hold an elective office.

Graduate Student Member – A full-time graduate student, majoring in a chemical science or a related academic discipline, shall be entitled to a discount of 50% of the membership dues. Special student subscription prices for most journals are available. Please note: Post Doctoral Work is not eligible for the student discount.

Non-Scientist/Society Affiliate – Entitled to all Regular Member benefits excluding the ability to vote or hold an elective office. A person who is not eligible to become a member of the Society but whose major vocational effort is directly concerned with the practice of a chemical science may become a Society Affiliate.

Student Affiliate – Undergraduate students majoring in or interested in chemistry qualify for membership at substantially discounted dues. Student Affiliates receive special student subscription prices for journals.
