SciFest 2010, a fun, family-friendly event on Saturday, November 6, 2010, will celebrate National Chemistry Week as it offers exhibits and activities for all ages in the main hallway of the Engineering Technology building at Central Michigan University, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. This free science day event will showcase our theme, Making Stuff, and will encompass the National Chemistry week theme Behind the Scenes with Chemistry, with interesting and educational exhibits by professional groups, college students, teachers, local businesses and more. On center stage we’ll present a science show SciShow: The Magic of Materials that will entertain young and old alike. New this year is SciCamp, a day of fun an engaging science activities for ages 4 - 12. Registration is required only for SciCamp from the link below.
We are pleased to be collaborating with CMU Public Television (WCMU) to host a combination of technical and science outreach activities in expectation of a new series of NOVA programs Making Stuff, anticipated to air in February 2011. The series, which was developed in partnership with the Materials Research Society and the National Science Foundation, will present the basic science behind new materials that are transforming our world, which resonates with the National Chemistry Week theme Behind the Scenes with Chemistry.
The Fall Scientific Meeting, the premier scientific meeting put on by the Midland ACS section, will be offered concurrently. The technical meeting will offer attendees exciting talks on new developments in nanomaterials and biomaterials, posters, vendors and more. For information on FSM 2010 click here. Please join us for our keynote speaker, Evan Hadingham, Senior Science Editor of PBS's NOVA, where he will preview the new NOVA series Making Stuff.
Please plan to join us on November 6 for Making Stuff: The Science of Materials and bring your kids, relatives and friends for an exciting exploration of science at all levels.
